My First Blog Post

Hi, Guys! At last I got around to answering these questions. I'll catch up with you eventually. I hope you like the video. That's pretty much the way I feel. :)

  • How do your students learn?
My students learn by interacting with each other and the world around them.
  • How much tech-richness does your curriculum provide?
It's getting richer now. As the school has started to provide the means for teachers to implement high-tech lesson plans, our curriculum  will start to change as a result. It already has.
  • How are you using the WWW to teach your students?
I don't really systematically use the web. I do get videos from time to time and use them to enrich some lessons.
  • How do we turn our 21st century classrooms into learning engines?
By adding the web resources that are becoming available to us, but not letting ourselves get caught up in tech trends and fads or tech for its own sake. I'm wary of a teacher becoming merely a handler of classsroom gadgets, without fostering any critical thinking on the part of the students. I guess I'm concerned about this enthusiasm that comes with our first delving into educational technology. If carried away we could lose track of where we're supposed to go.

  • Are you engaging your students?
Yes. I'm not using a whole lot of high tech resourses, but I do engage my students by establishing rapport and providing contexts in which critical thinking can be fostered in the classroom.

  • What are your main barriers to incorporating technology into your classroom?
Definetely my lack of knowledge about technology, which I'm trying to improve now by taking the Web Tools course. My ignorance of what is out there makes me afraid or hesitant to take risks. As I learn a bit more, I'll risk a bit more. In fact, I already have started taking more risks. Last Friday I used the projector to teach a conversation lesson which worked! You can't imagine what the butterflies did to my stomach!
